The Carter Fold

On Saturday night we all went to the Carter Fold in Hiltons, VA, about 1/2 hour from our house. This is where A.P., Sara and Mother Maybelle lived during the time of the 1927 Bristol Recording sessions, and is known far and wide as the birthplace of Country Music.

Pictured above is the A.P. Carter Store which the family operated. It is now a museum dedicated to the Carter Family.

June Carter Cash is a descendant of the Carter family.

Every Saturday the Fold comes alive with old time bluegrass music and flat footin' dancing. The night we were there the Bogtrotters were playing. It was a hot night, so the big rollup windows were open, and we listened to music and watched the night come down over the mountains. Later a thunderstorm came through and lightning lit the sky.
