Fall Festival at the Blockhouse

The early settlers of Scott County celebrated the harvest last Saturday evening at the Anderson Blockhouse at Natural Tunnel State Park. We piled in the van with the Craley Clan and went to see what it was all about. When we got there, John Blackmore (a.k.a. cousin Bob McConnell) was tending the bonfire with the help of his grandson, Matthew. Don't they look sharp in their colonial era garb?Wanda was inside the interpretative center, manning the till. There are lots of interesting things to see here, such as the big spinning wheel you can just glimpse on the left. But Wanda was the prettiest thing there.

Captain and Mrs. John Anderson, also know as Chris and Lisa McConnell Edwards, hosted the gathering in the blockhouse bearing their name, and served cookies and hot cider. Lisa is the lady in red, behind her dad.

The gentleman in the black hat is Captain Daniel Boone who came to tell stories of his adventures. This must have been a good one as the Craleys are listening in rapt attention.

Below is Chris on the right with two other folks, whose names, unfortunately, I did not get. There was a good fire and it was toasty warm inside the two-story blockhouse.
The warm fires and hot cider were very welcome, as we've had a spell of cold, wet weather here along with the rest of the southeast. And though we had drizzle on this festive night, it didn't dampen our spirits. (Sorry, I just had to say it.)
